Residence 12 – Place Of Joy, Place Of Faith, Place Of Hope

Residence 12 is an estate that provides a home for orphans and the elderly. The estate was inaugurated on 12 December 2012, located in Jakarta, Indonesia. The vision and mission is to safe 12 children, which has been casted away by their parents, and pairing them with an elderly couple that has a passion and love in raising and developing those children. The concept is to raise those children in a family environment with the most care and love, to ultimately making their life better in the future.
Residence 12 was named as we decided to pick 12 orphans and dedicated elders so caring and teaching can be maximized hoping they will grow up to be leaders in their chosen field. There is specific criteria that differentiate Residence 12 with other orphanage schools, we chose those children that really wanted to learn and go to school but were faced with economic difficulties. Another criteria was to save babies that were abandoned or rejected by their parents. As for the elderly, they need to have skills or creativity that can add value to those kids/orphans. At the moment there are 4 young adults, 1 toddler and 1 elderly.

They lived in Residence 12 like a family and they don’t discriminate between another. There is no harsh punishment to orphans even though we encourage discipline.

“At Residence 12, we want to encourage discipline in a family environment. The young adults treated me like their big sister here, as well as for Mrs Edi (the only elderly here at the momentJ, she has been referred to as their mother by the young adults” Michelle stated as one of Residence 12 organiser.
