Projects Country: Indonesia
Making Life Better, our love and devotion for Indonesia
Indonesia has more than 13,000 islands which make it the world’s largest island country. Indonesia is also the world’s 14th largest country in terms of land area at 1,904,569 square kilometres and the 7th largest in the terms of combined sea and land area. It is the world’s 4th most populous country with over 261 million people as well as most populous Austronesian. (source: Wikipedia)
With around 300 distinct native ethnic groups, Indonesia is considered as a very ethnically diverse country and Javanese are the largest ethnic group comprising 40.2% of the population followed by the Sundanese, Batak and Maduranese. More than 742 different languages and dialects are spoken in the country and Bahasa Indonesia is the national language.
According to the World Bank’s report dated 6th October 2015 “28.6 million Indonesians currently live below the poverty line and approximately 40 percent of all people remain clustered around the national poverty line set at 330,776 Rupiah per person per month (US$22.6). Employment growth has been slower than population growth. Public services remain inadequate by middle income standards. Indonesia is also doing poorly in a number of health and infrastructure related indicators.”
Poverty is often passed down to the next generation because poor families cannot afford health services and education for their children.
Education in Indonesia is compulsory for twelve years and the constitution dictates that certain percentage of the national budget is to be prioritised for education.
Since 2009, Australia Oikos Care has been very active in touching lives of the under privilege by building schools to provide education, provide humanitarian aids to those affected by natural disasters, home for abandoned children and micro capital loan program to help with the small start-up business. Australia Oikos Care is also a partner for project J773N of Global Development Group (ABN: 57 102 400 993).
Therefore, we look forward to your continued support, donation and generosity towards the success of our organisation and school projects.
